Aaron founded the Taproot Foundation in 2001, 40 years after his grandfather, Joseph E. Slater, wrote the original blueprint for the Peace Corps. Inspired by the Peace Corps, Aaron founded the Taproot Foundation to connect this country's millions of business professionals with nonprofits who need their talents and experience. As president of the Taproot Foundation, Aaron leads the development of the organization across the nation, as well as sets the strategy and vision behind the Foundation's work. He is also a member of the Board of Directors.

Prior to founding the Taproot Foundation, Aaron was a director of product management at iSyndicate, a digital syndication company, and iOwn, an online real estate service. His nonprofit experience includes work at the DePaul Center for Urban Education and the Chicago Foundation for Education. Aaron graduated from the University of Michigan, where he created award-winning new models for integrating community service into the university curriculum.

Kim has dedicated her career to applying the strategies and practices of corporations to help build the infrastructure of nonprofit organizations. As the Managing Director – New York, she leads our East Coast office in leveraging volunteers from the business community to deliver high quality capacity building services to local nonprofits.

For the past seven years, Kim has served as an organizational development, branding, and fundraising consultant to leading nonprofit organizations including the Columbia University Medical Center, Shore Memorial Hospital, Twenty-First Century Foundation, Open Society Institute, African American Women's Fund, Brandeis University, Fordham University and the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy. Prior to consulting, she worked with the Twenty-First Century Foundation, Rock the Vote and the Children’s Defense Fund. She holds Bachelor’s degree from Vassar College and an MBA from Columbia University. While at Columbia, she served as a marketing intern at Johnson & Johnson.

Lara brings over five years of nonprofit program experience to the Taproot Foundation. As the Account Manager for New York City, Lara manages Taproot Foundation's Service Grant program - ensuring the delivery of consistent, high-quality services to our grantees and creating a community of professionals dedicated to life-long volunteerism.

Before joining the Taproot Foundation, Lara was a program coordinator for the International Rescue Committee, a humanitarian organization assisting refugees and victims of oppression and violent conflict. Prior to that post, she was the administrative director for United States Servas and a research associate for the Institute for Urban Environmental Research. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for United States Servas. Lara holds a BA and MA from the George Washington University, with a focus on community and international development.

Tanya is a successful social entrepreneur with a strong interest in public/private ventures.  As the Senior Manager for Corporate Programs, she is responsible for creating a model for making pro bono work part of the ethic of corporate America.  She manages our strategic partnership with Time Warner that serves as a pilot of our corporate programs.

Prior to joining the Taproot Foundation, Tanya served as the Director of the E.X.C.E.L. Program, a college preparation program she created and ran at the Children's Aid Society.  Prior to starting this program she developed an innovative financial literacy curriculum at the same agency that was successfully launched in partnership with Deutsche Bank.  Her nonprofit experience began at ASPIRA, where she administered and designed academic projects for at-risk Latino Youth. Tanya's business experience includes work as an analyst at MetLife.  She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from New York University.  Tanya serves on the board of the Family Mentee Program.

Prior to the Taproot Foundation, Andrea served as an Americorps VISTA volunteer with two of New York City’s leading anti-hunger organizations, New York City Coalition Against Hunger and City Harvest. During her VISTA year she worked to promote Food Stamp outreach and nutrition education throughout the five boroughs. Prior to Americorps, she worked with a shelter for homeless families where she provided case management services while advocating for affordable housing solutions. Andrea holds both a Bachelors of Social Work and a Masters of International Social Work from Monmouth University, with a focus on community development.
