"Preparing urban youth from underserved
communities to compete at high levels by using intensive legal
and educational. Programming as tools for fostering vision,
developing skills, enhancing confidence, and facilitating
the pursuit of higher education."
Legal Outreach was founded in Harlem in 1983
with the aim of using the law to inspire at-risk junior
high and high school students to pursue academic success
and professional careers. In 2000, Legal Outreach decided
to expand and Blue Ridge Foundation New York helped institutionalize
the organization’s Brooklyn programming. Legal Outreach
Brooklyn now serves nearly 80 students in its flagship “College
Bound” program and hundreds more through its law-related
education activities.
