Summer Search’s mission is to find resilient low-income high-school students and inspire them to become responsible and altruistic leaders by providing year-round mentoring, life-changing summer experiences, college advising, and a lasting support network.
What Summer Search does
- Intensive, long-term, and deeply personal year-round mentoring of students by Summer Search staff. Staff talk weekly with participants and urge them to gain insight into self-defeating behaviors, develop practical skills and confidence, find their individual voices and develop a vision of a different future, for themselves and their communities.
- Experiential summer programs. For two consecutive summers beginning after their sophomore year in high school, students receive scholarships from Summer Search to take part in summer experiential learning experiences, including wilderness leadership expeditions, academic enrichment programs, community service and home-stays overseas.
- College-bound support. High school seniors receive access to scholarships for SAT tutoring, college and financial aid counseling, computers for college, and internships that lead to professional opportunities.
