WomensLaw.org’s mission is to provide easy-to-understand legal information and resources to women living with or escaping domestic violence and to empower them to lead independent and productive lives, free from abuse.

What WomensLaw.org does

  • One-stop national resource for actionable legal information needed by domestic violence victims and advocates. WomensLaw.org’s site publishes state-specific legal information, such as how to get a restraining order without a lawyer, and information about local community resources nationwide.
  • Email hotline. WomensLaw staff responds to email requests for help by answering legal questions, providing referrals, and supporting women who often are not ready or able to talk to someone in person.By late 2003, each month saw WomensLaw.org receiving over 23,000 thousand site visits and more than 200 hundred emails to its email hotline. WomensLaw also gets regular reports from local and national partner agencies that WomensLaw.org is frequently lauded by women who experience domestic abuse and the people who help them—shelter workers, counselors, lawyers, friends and family.
